JAN SZULEJEWSKI

Achievements, Siemens Healthcare:

  • The company needed a suitable form of vendor financing. I negotiated with banks and found a solution that allowed 40% of sales to be covered by external financing.
  • When I joined, the high level of receivables and inventory was damaging our cash flow and investment potential. I improved the collection methods and control of inventory. The capital engagement fell from the equivalent of 6 months turnover to practically zero.
  • While I was in charge of Finance the business grew from an annual turnover of 25m Euro to 150m Euro. The control and budgeting processes I introduced enabled a sustained growth of 18% per year.
  • Following the sudden death of the Managing Director, I successfully covered both jobs for three months. I stabilized the business and maintained the morale and team spirit. I handed over the business to the new Managing Director is a good state.
  • After the takeover of two companies (Bayer and DPC Diagnostics) I integrated the financial and logistic processes and reorganized and restructured the finance department. This significantly reduced the costs of operations and improved efficiency.
  • The Company needed detailed control and instructions. I introduced control procedures to ensure the safety and compliance with laws and regulations. This allowed a safe growth of 6 times earnings over 11 years without legal or compliance problems.
  • In order to control tax risks and optimize the competitiveness of the product offer, I changed the method of assessment and control of tax risks. Despite numerous audits there were never any tax problems.

Achievements, Orange Mobile Telecommunications :

  • I administered a cost reduction program which brought significant savings in administration and operating costs
  • I used my experience from management consultancy in Deloitte to implement SAP ERP to plan and budget.
  • I maintained good contacts with external shareholders (France Telecom, Telekomunikacja Polska) . This enabled us to introduce successful investments and innovations and keep the good opinion of investors.
  • Hundreds of thousands of customer payments were received a month. When I started, the quality of service was not good. I introduced a program of quality improvement which significantly improved the service and reduced the overall time taken to allocate receipts from one week to one day.
  • In order to secure the system of accounting for airtime “from airtime to invoicing” I introduced a control system called “revenue assurance” which covered the entire process of airtime settlements including technical IT and accounting aspects.

Achievements, NATO, Afghanistan :

  • NATO Finance Statements had been qualified repeatedly for incorrect accounting of Infrastructure Assets in the Afghanistan theatre. Through extensive coordination with different military and civilian units and much local travel, investigation and communication, I was able to eliminate the audit qualification. This reduced the risk of criticism by contributing nation representatives.
